U.S. Approves USD1.98B Anti-Drone Weapons Sale to Kuwait

(MENAFN) The U.S. State Department has greenlit a nearly $2 billion weapons package to Kuwait, authorizing the sale of advanced counter-drone platforms and supporting equipment as Gulf states face mounting aerial threats, the department announced Friday.

"The estimated total cost is $1.98 billion," the State Department said in an official statement.

The sweeping package includes an array of cutting-edge counter-unmanned aerial systems, among them the Roadrunner-Munition and Anvil-Kinetic platforms, launch boxes, Lattice command and control systems, long-range and maritime sentry towers, Pulsar electromagnetic warfare systems, and tactical operations centers, alongside additional equipment and support services.

Washington framed the sale in both defensive and strategic terms.

"The proposed sale will improve Kuwait's capability to meet current and future threats by providing electronic and kinetic defeat capabilities against unmanned aerial systems," the department said.

The State Department further justified the transaction as directly aligned with U.S. foreign policy and national security interests, noting that strengthening Kuwait — a designated major non-NATO ally — serves broader regional objectives. Kuwait, the statement added, has long been "an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East."

The approval arrives amid sharply elevated tensions across the Gulf, where drone and missile threats have surged in recent months amid the widening regional conflict.
